Whether you are heading to the Victoria Racing Club at Flemington,
Victoria, the Australian Jockey Club at Randwick, Sydney, going to a Country Racing Club or just to a ladies lunch Spring Carnival and the
Melbourne Cup Carnival is a great excuse to get dressed up!
Going to the races
is an opportunity to
express your individuality. We believe that everyone going to the races they should keep their own
sense of fashion and wear what makes them feel fabulous when stepping
out the front door of the house.
One of the questions on ladies lips is 'what to wear?' so we've compiled a quick guide to what is appropriate Spring Carnival attire:
If
you are competing in
Fashions on the Field, or simply want to look the part, here are a few specific pointers:
- Derby Day, Saturday 30th October 2011, is all about classic 'black and white' attire so this means putting your best foot forward in an all black, all white or a black and white outfit.
- Melbourne Cup, Tuesday 1st November 2011, is all about colour. Bright pinks, yellow, purple, coral, gold, red and orange. At the moment there is a lot of talk about colour blocking. It does look fabulous, but if this style doesn't make your heart-throb, then dress in one colour and accessorise with another to break up the outfit.
- Ladies Day, Thursday 3rd November 2011, is the last day of Fashions on the Field and the day is all about soft, feminine and pretty attire. Floating dresses, pastels, lace and pearls.
And remember to enjoy yourself!

Spring Racing Means HATS!
Written by Edwina
Pack away the jackets and scarves and bring out your party frocks and Summer suits. Spring is here which also means a day at the races, and ladies that means HATS!!!! This week I spoke with Jessica Beattie Millinery who design hats, fascinators and head pieces for all occasions.
The old dilemma as always is, do you match the hat with the outfit or the outfit with the hat? The best advice as Jessica says is to "Fall in love with something first" and the rest will come.
It doesn't need to be overstated if that's not you. Try a few on (that's fun in itself!) and find something that makes you comfortable. More often than not you will surprise yourself and fall in love with a hat or headpiece that you would never have thought was for you. "Wearing hats today is all about feeling good and having fun".
Jessica's new range 'Mad Hatters Tea Party' says it all. These head turning hats are cleverly designed in a combination of straws and shaped fabric inspired by the magical world of Alice in Wonderland. There are no boundaries in this bold, bright & whimsical range. Jessica has also designed her very own hat block which adds to their uniqueness.
For the more conservative wearer there is a 'Classic Collection' featuring elegant hats and headpieces which are easily suited to one's wardrobe and add that something special to your outfit.
There are no rights and wrongs in which hat to wear this season. Find something that suits you, compliments your outfit and makes you feel great.
You can find Jessica Beattie Millinery at Paddington markets each Saturday with a beautiful ready-to-wear range and years of experience to design you your very own hat.
